DJ Vero on the Rise
One wedding and two 50th birthday parties in October 2021 … Three Saturdays in a row.
If anyone would have told me a few years ago that I would be DJ-ing professionally in 2021, I would have said ‘you’re right’! Because that was my intention when I bought my professional level Pioneer DJ Controller.
I started learning April of 2020, right after lockdown. I had time to dive in and devote hours upon hours to this new craft. I did it with all my heart and soul … as I do everything in life. When I’m passionate about something, I give it my all. There’s no in between.
Honestly, I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly, but I certainly willed it to become reality. So here we are!
THE WEDDING
Thanks to my friends at Waveform Events, I DJ’d and Emcee’d a wedding for their client at The Unique Space in Downtown LA with Feathered Arrow Events. There was an In and Out Burger Truck. Yay!
The groom wanted Country and Motown while the bride wanted Latin, 2000s hip hop and 2020s pop. What’s a DJ to do?
Well I read the room and saw that Latin and Hip Hop was winning, so I stuck with that. Sorry Country! I prepared a lot of what the groom wanted, but I had to abandon it because every time I played one of his song choices the dance floor would begin to clear.
I would quickly “burn” the tune and switch back to Latin or Hip Hop and the dance floor became wild again. It was a no-brainer.
5150 BIRTHDAY #1
Well this really was the event of my dreams. It was the 5150 Van Halen themed birthday event at the W Hotel in Hollywood.
The husband turned 51 and the wife turned 50.
Those who know me well, know that I love Van Halen and Hair Metal in general. Really, I just LOVE the 80s beyond words. So needless to say, this event was right up my alley.
I had a ton of fun preparing music before this event. I was sprinting down memory lane recalling my grammar and high school years with each song I placed in the “MUST PLAY” folder.
Thank you to my friend Lee Dyson of Hey Mister DJ for putting me on his roster and hiring me on the regular.
Shout out to our friend Bernie Gaps of Absolutely Fabulous Events for the amazing decor!
50th BIRTHDAY #2
Hey Mister DJ hired me again for a 50th at a private residence in the Pacific Palisades. This client wanted all 90s-2000s Hip Hop and Pop. The theme of this event was the NY Jets. It was nice to be among a bunch of East Coasters here in LA.
The other (not so underlying) theme was marijuana. Again, those who know me understand how much of an advocate I am for legal marijuana. It was nice to see people toking up as easily as people can go up to the bar and grab some hard liquor. The big difference: MaryJane is not addictive!
Anyway…
I had so much fun spinning Hip Hop and Pop of the 90s-00s. I only got into Hip Hop about 10 years ago! True story! My husband introduced me to more of the deep cuts and the history of it all and I gladly embraced it. I also had the help of my friend Tiffany (amazing DJ) with all the 00s Pop and Hip Hop.
The best compliment … Two young ladies (20-something) came up to me during the event and said, “We love you! You play the best tunes! And we love your look.” To which I replied, “It means the world to be complimented by the youth of today.”
I mean that with all my heart! This generation pulls no punches. If I sucked, they would let me know, I’m sure of it.
YOU ROCK V!!!!
